RENEWAL is an acronym which stands for Rest, Environment, Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Alternatives and Limits which are the principles needed to gaining Health & Wellness. These precepts keep you healthy and can reverse symptoms of illness. This article will concentrate on Nutrition.

What you eat, drink or breathe becomes the base of your cells, and fuels your body with energy, not to mention plays a role in gene expression. If you have good nutrition you will have healthy cells, great energy and pure blood. If your nutrition is poor you will have disease and illness.

The best foods for us are found in Genesis 1:29 and 3:18. Grains (cereals and legumes such as seeds, peas, and beans), fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet.

You deserve the best! Just like you shouldn’t put sugar in a gas tank; you shouldn’t fill your stomach with sugar or coffee or fatty deep fried foods, because your body does not run well on these items. Your body runs well on food; food is whole, food is natural, simple and tasty. Just like plants take water, sunlight and minerals from the earth; we need real food to grow without disease.

The five basic components of food are, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals/ vitamins and fibre.
Carbohydrates: are your body’s main fuel.
Proteins: are broken down into amino acids which are the building blocks for your body’s hormones, and enzymes and tissue.
Fats: which supply twice as many calories per gram as carbs and protein and can be stored for later use.
Vitamins and Minerals: are needed for all functions of the body. Whole, unrefined foods contain the highest amounts.
Dietary Fibre or roughage is the indigestible portion of plant foods having two main components: soluble and insoluble. Fibre keeps your intestines clean.

All carbohydrates, proteins, dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals components are found in all plant foods in varying degrees. Fats are found in nuts and seeds, some fruits and vegetables. Raw is Best – because it preserves the live enzymes.

In meal planning there are two rules to keep.
1. Avoid eating fruits and vegetables at the same meal. What are fruits and what are vegetables can be confusing but middle of the road culinary foods can go with either, such as cucumbers, lettuce greens, tomatoes, avocado, etc.
2. Make your morning meal the biggest (highest in calories) your next meal should be less and the last (if there is a last) the least in calories, least complex, and smallest.
