Glycyrrhizic acid
Glycyrrhizic acid is derived from licorice root. It has long been used in Japan along with stevia as a natural plant based sweetener. While not a widely known nutrient compound, glycyrrhizic acid seems to have immune, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and blood sugar and blood pressure regulation benefits. Studies from the 1970s indicate it can irreversibly inactivate herpes simplex, a significant matter yet still little known. It also is used in Japan and elsewhere for treatment of liver cirrhosis. Considering its ability to inhibit DNA and RNA virus growth, it would seem use of this nutrient compound should increase by those taking supplementation seriously. Caution for daily use above 100mg (and 200mg in Japan) is warranted due to cortisol inhibiting and other factors.
