Vitamin C

VITAMIN C (Ascorbic Acid) is essential for healthy teeth, gums & bones; helps heal wounds, scar tissue, & fractures; prevents scurvy; builds resistance to infection; aids in the prevention & treatment of the common cold; gives strength to blood vessels; aids in the absorption of iron. It is required for the synthesis of collagen, the intercellular “cement” which holds tissues together.

Vitamin C is also one of the major antioxidant nutrients. It prevents the conversion of nitrates (from tobacco smoke, smog, bacon, lunch meats, & some vegetables) into cancer-causing substances. High doses used intravenously as part of natural cancer therapy has shown to be very beneficial.

According to Dr. Linus Pauling (Nobel prize winner), the foremost authority on Vitamin C, Vitamin C will decrease the risk of getting certain cancers by 75%. Combinations of Co-Q10, C and other free radical fighting power molecules are increasing appearing in medical grade nutrition support formulations. Not all Cs are the same. Processing methods vary and some Vitamin C supplements are substantially better than others, as is true of all dietary supplements.

Other nutrients particularly bioflavanoids improve Vitamin C effectiveness. Quercetin is one such bioflavanoid gaining in popularity as more and more studies support its benefits. Quercetin is a very highly concentrated form of bioflavonoids derived from citrus fruits. Biofavonoids are powerful antioxidants. Bioflavonoids are also anti-inflammatory – they inhibit histamines, prostaglandins, and enzymes involved in the inflammatory response. They are anti-allergic – inhibits histamine production. They are anti-carcinogenic – due to antioxidant activity. Powerful nutrient “cocktails” inclusive of C we believe will increasingly emerge as a complimentary therapy for treating ill patients of nearly every disease.

Vitamin C is often taken in mega-doses alone with beneficial effects. Unpublished data suggests stem cell therapy clinics operating outside the US have improved results when patients have high C intake levels before and after stem cell therapy.  Vitamin C along with cofactors that improve bio-availability and effectiveness of C are present in advanced nutritional immune boosting formulations such as those in OWC’s member shop.
